Re-grouting a shower. My house is 60 years old and the bathroom is original. Can’t afford to re-do it right now so the shower has to last a while longer. It’s my only full bath. How do I make the project last only one weekend so that I don’t offend myself, or anyone elase I may come into contact with?
Hey Susan – thanks for sending me a note. Grout will cure fully in 48 hours so you can do this in a weekend. Start very early in the morning by removing the old grout. You can get the tool (looks like a small pizza cutter) at your local hardware store. Once the grout is out you want to be sure the area is clean and dry before you start the new grout. Read the directions on the grout so you know how to apply it. Remember to wipe off the excess. Let it dry for the 48 hours before getting it wet again. You can seal it the next weekend (you don’t have to do it right away but don’t wait too long). The sealing does not take as long to dry and will help preserve the grout. Let me know if you have any questions. Be sure to take before and after pictures.
